Living in a Space with Dignity
“Living in a space with dignity” is the title of a project idea aimed at creating a dignified living space for minimum wage workers living within the United Arab Emirates, particularly construction workers. Some of the issues these workers face include, working long hour shifts daily and coming back to a shared space that is usually a crowded room full of bunkbeds with barely any breathing space. This Project idea proposes a more personalized space for each individual living in an onsite warehouse where they have their own individual module pod consisting of a bathroom, bed space and storage area. There are also multipurpose function spaces where all the residents within the warehouse can share these areas including of an open kitchen, a laundromat, dining space and lounge area. “Why do we design so much for the privileged when we don’t design enough for the unprivileged!” – Maryam Tahir Abdulrashid
